I've found myself engaging in a lot of pre-training negative self talk lately.
"You can't lift that much! What are you THINKING?"
"You're going to hurt yourself. You're an old lady FFS"
"Just take today off, go for a swim..."
"I'm never going to be able to mix it with "The Big Dogs" anyway. Take it easy"
That kind of thing.
I'm not a unique negative self talk snowflake so I guess you probably know the drill...We do this. I am fucking good at it.
So what I've decided to do this training block is start noting down the positives I experience each session. It's the same premise of a gratitude diary but for training specifically.
My experience with gratitude journaling - is that even something as simple as taking the time to identify three positives a day - will see you have a profound change in your outlook.
A big positive I took away from yesterday's session was that my knee sleeves fit. First time in a while, I was more than grateful to get them on for squats as even though this week is an "on ramp" to Arnold prep. The weights scared the bejesus outta me.
Fingers crossed this tactic gets my head in the game because it's go time.
